Life as we knew it came to a halt for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summer Spectacular was eagerly anticipated and had to be canceled in 2020 and 2021. Finally, in 2022, the Summer Spectacular Gala took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills to raise funds for the Drug Prevention Program. The night was dedicated to celebrating our commitment to this cause and honoring Lala Kent, who received the Spirit of Sobriety award. The charismatic Mario Lopez hosted the event, keeping the spirits high throughout the night. The gala came alive with a stunning performance by Pia Toscano and the legendary Andre Bocelli, creating a magical atmosphere that left everyone in awe. As the night drew to a close, the sensational FloRida took to the stage for an exceptional performance, bringing the gala to an unforgettable conclusion.
It was a night of celebration, unity, and renewed commitment to our mission, made possible by our donors' incredible support. The annual Brent Shapiro Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Prevention Summer Spectacular raised more than $1.2 million dollars for alcohol and drug awareness and prevention during their annual gala on September 17. Hosted by Linell and Robert Shapiro, the event featured a musical performance by Katharine McPhee, honored philanthropist and former congressman Patrick F. Kennedy, and was emceed by former host of Access Hollywood, Shaun Robinson. Other celebs and VIPs in attendance included Kris Jenner, La Toya Jackson, Fran Drescher, Florence Henderson, Adrienne Maloof, Paul Nassif, Richard and Kathy Hilton.
During Saturday’s Summer Spectacular foundation creators Robert and Linell Shapiro presented three full ride college scholarships and ten $5000 college scholarships to members of Brent’s Club, its educational drug prevention program, for successfully completing high school without failing a drug test.
The lavishly decorated Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton was the perfect setting for the Summer Spectacular, benefitting the Brent Shapiro Foundation. This invitation-only gala has raised millions for drug awareness & prevention, and was created by famed attorney Robert Shapiro & his wife, Linell, to honor the life of their deceased son, Brent. Their mission is to save lives through effective programs to encourage young people to forgo the dangers of alcohol and drug dependency. Currently over 1,500 children are being served.
Hosted by actress, producer and activist Eva Longoria with musical performances by Sheila E. and Pia Toscano, this year’s gala will bestow the foundation’s Spirit of Sobriety Award upon actor, producer and writer Will Arnett who has been very candid both personally and through his work on Flaked, about his sobriety. Past recipients of the award include Joe Manganiello, Rob Lowe, Jack Osbourne, Harry Hamlin, Sugar Ray Leonard, Christopher Lawford Kennedy, and Patrick J. Kennedy.
